Concrete Marketing started at NMS with B/W flyers we printed at P.I.P. For about $11. We gave one to Rick Dobbis (VP of Marketing at the time at Chrysalis Records) and he gave us our first gig working Armored Saint. That lead to our second client, Metallica with “Kill Em All”. Great to have NMS back.

If not for the NMS I would not be in NYC today. Mine is the classic tale of a DJ turned music supervisor and manager of a publishing catalog of 15,000 songs, including Bob Marley, Black Uhuru, Free, Justice, Baaba Maal. It all started with NMS and shortly followed with my first Gold Record from the soundtrack to New Jersey Drive.

I was a product manager at Sony Music. One of my first groups to “break” in this new position was a little known west coast hip hop trio by the name of Cypress Hill. I was determined to break them on the east coast IN THE 80′S. LOL. Their appearance at the New Music Seminar helped turn the tide and increase the credibility of a little-known act determined to make their mark. The rest is history. It was the place to be.

Just a note to say how excited I am that you have brought back the New Music Seminar. I’ve attended many and they were part of the reason that I got into this business…in fact it was at the NMS in ‘85 where I gave Vince Pellegrino my resume’… I also met Joey Carvello at a New Music Seminar and we wound up working together (years later) and are friends to this day.
