Top Music Industry Conference Presents the Beginning of a New Music Business

NEW YORK, May 7, 2014New Music Seminar (NMS), dedicated to exploring ideas that will lead to a better music business through networking, engagement, and discussion about the future of music and business, returns to New York for its annual conference, June 8-10, 2014, at The New Yorker Hotel.

From breakout indie artists to visionary CEOs and executives, NMS is where high-level discussions and interaction will help shape the new business solutions for this new era of music business.

“The music industry has reached a flexion point – after eight years of growth, digital music sales have peaked and joined CD sales in double digit declines, and the future of the music business is clearly ensconced in streaming,” said Tom Silverman, founder and executive director, New Music Seminar. “Music’s monetization, measurement and even the language must change from units to users, average revenue per user (ARPU) and customer lifetime value (CLV). This is a paradigm shift of unprecedented proportion and the New Music Seminar will probe the opportunities and dangers as we enter this new era.”

This year, NMS again features the SoundExchange Summit focused on the growth in streaming, and how labels and artists can maximize revenues. A third day of educational programming is also added to the schedule. The conference now kicks off on Sunday, June 8, with the NMS Tune-up Sessions featuring the Art of Networking, Artist is a Business and The Legal Big Four (CLE) discussing the big four artists agreements, followed by the opening night red carpet event.

The main theme of this year’s NMS is: “The beginning of a brand new music business,” with a story that unfolds through all-star movements on topics such as:

About NMS:

The New Music Seminar is the world’s most influential Music Business convention, led by the voices that disrupt the conventional, tackle key issues, and provide a stage for trailblazing artists to shine. NMS is the place to network, engage, and discuss the future of the art and business of music.

From 1980-1994, NMS established itself as the most influential Music Business Conference of its time. In 2009, NMS was revived to convene the visionaries and industry leaders – paving a way to move past the dying record business. After 12 years of cleansing decline, we have a new attitude; a new optimism, a clear path to a bigger, more engaged, more inclusive, more sustainable music ecosystem.

The New Music Seminar is perfect for anyone looking to further their career in any and all facets of the music business. Recording Companies, Music Publishers, Music Technologies, Managers, Agents, Artists, Songwriters, Producers, and artist & label services from around the world come together each June in New York City to cross-pollinate, share ideas, and create new opportunities.
